How to Resize an Image

1. Add an image. 2. Enter the desired width and height. 3. Process the image. 4. Download the resized file.

Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of an image. For best results, keep the aspect ratio when changing only the size; changing width and height independently can stretch the image.

Image Dimensions and Aspect Ratio

Width and height determine an image’s pixel dimensions. The aspect ratio describes the relationship between them. Keeping that ratio helps prevent stretching.

Resize vs Crop

Resizing changes the overall dimensions. Cropping removes parts of an image so a different shape can be achieved without stretching the remaining content.

Keeping the Aspect Ratio

The tool asks for an exact width and height and does not lock the ratio. Calculate the second number yourself: new height = original height × new width ÷ original width. For example, a 4000 × 3000 photo resized to 1200 pixels wide should be 900 pixels high. Entering a different height stretches the image.

Making an Image Smaller in KB

Fewer pixels usually means a smaller file, so resizing is the quickest way to cut file size. For finer control over the size, follow up with Compress Image. Note that the resized image is saved as a JPG, and any transparent area becomes white.

Enlarging an Image

Making an image larger cannot add detail that was not captured, so it may look soft or blurry. Start from the largest original you have whenever you can.
